According to sources from The Sun, Ten Hag is a strong candidate to replace the head coach position at Leipzig following the team’s poor performance. The Dutch strategist is said to require full control over transfer activities if he takes charge of Leipzig.
This could complicate Manchester United’s efforts to recruit left-back David Raum. United’s coach, Ruben Amorim, is reportedly very interested in Raum to strengthen the defense, which is currently struggling due to injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Raum, 26, currently plays for Hoffenheim and is valued at around £35 million. The German player can perform well as both a full-back and a wing-back, promising to be a quality addition to Leipzig’s defense.
United also urgently needs a left-back after Luke Shaw has continuously faced fitness issues. Tyrell Malacia, Diogo Dalot, and Noussair Mazraoui have yet to show consistent performance. Competing with Ten Hag in the transfer market would certainly be a significant challenge for United.
However, if Ten Hag takes charge at Leipzig, this deal is unlikely to materialize. The Dutch coach is expected to have a significant say in transfer decisions and would certainly not want to sell a key player, especially to Manchester United, the club that recently fired him.
Ten Hag managed “The Red Devils” for over two years, winning two trophies: the Carabao Cup in 2022/2023 and the FA Cup in 2023/2024. However, he faced criticism for failing to establish a stable playing style and was dismissed in October 2024 after a series of disappointing results.
This is not the first time Ten Hag has been linked with Leipzig. Before joining United, the Dutch coach was approached by the German club. However, an attractive offer from “The Red Devils” led Ten Hag to decide to move to Old Trafford.
Ten Hag is fluent in German thanks to his time as the reserve team coach at Bayern Munich. If he leads Leipzig, he will have the chance to reunite with Jurgen Klopp, who recently surprised everyone by joining the Red Bull group after leaving Liverpool. The two were former rivals in the Premier League, with the peak being Liverpool’s 7-0 victory over United in March 2023.
