(Monster Hunter) blatantly sets up a sequel with its cliffhanger ending, but will Monster Hunter 2 ever actually happen? Based on the eponymous Capcom video game, Monster Hunter stars Milla Jovovich as Natalie Artemis, a U.S. Army Ranger who leads a United Nations mission in the desert. When her squad experiences a strange storm, they inadvertently crossover into a parallel world that’s inhabited by extremely large beasts.
Critics were less than impressed by the schlocky action epic, and director Paul W.S. Anderson’s opus only earned a paltry 44% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. However, critics have rarely determined the fate of such movies, and the audience response was much more positive. With video game movies and TV shows continuing to rise in popularity, Monster Hunter was the first in a long line of modern adaptations that put a bit more effort into bringing their source material to life with fans in mind. This rise in video game media could help spur Monster Hunter 2.
