Liam Payne always showed his support to the former members of One Direction. The singer and his ex-bandmate Harry Styles shared moments together that he said she would “cherish”
Directioners all over the world saw Harry Styles say goodbye to his dear friend, Liam Payne.
Liam was laid to rest on November 20 in his hometown in England after his body was transferred from Argentina to the United Kingdom. The singer died on October 16 after falling from a third storey balcony from his hotel in Buenos Aires. The National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office issued a press release on November 7 stating that Liam’s toxocologoly results were shared with his family and revealed traces of “alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants” in his system.
Liam was best known for being one of five members of One Direction alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry. They came to say goodbye one last time at his funeral. Liam was once close to Zayn and Louis. Before his death, Liam attended Niall’s show in Argentina, making him the last One Direction member to see the star alive.
Harry and the late singer didn’t publicize their friendship, but the duo continued to support each other’s careers. Liam once praised Harry’s success on the Diary of a CEO podcast in 2021.

He said: “We’ve all had our success in completely different areas, and also musically, we didn’t really go down the same route. I think Harry’s done amazing… I mean, first album he had the one song off which is really really well and then [on] his second album, he found himself.”
When Harry’s stepfather, Robin Twist, died in 2017, Liam shared a tribute on Instagram, which has since been deleted. He wrote: “Harry my heart really goes out to you such an extremely sad day for us all who knew Robin. What a kind, gentle and beautiful soul, a true rarity to find in today’s world. Sometimes they really do take the best of us far too soon.”
That same year, Liam told The Sun that he “bumped into” Harry in New York City. He said that Harry was “really happy” to see him and wished him well after what Harry had gone through. Liam and Harry “gave each other a big hug” and “didn’t say much.”

In 2019, both Liam and Harry performed at the CapitalFM Jingle Bell Ball. Two years later, Liam revealed on an instagram Live that Harry called him because “he has a sixth sense for if I’m struggling or if one of us is in trouble, I feel like,” he said. He added that he had “a lot of love” for Harry and and expressed how “really great” he was.
In 2023, the Strip That Down crooner posted a social media tribute to the Watermelon Sugar singer. He wrote: “Wow … this image is really something to wake up to and when you write music like you do Harry you deserve every millisecond of that moment looking down smiling at the trophy you’ve earned. God bless you brother congratulations.”
A year later, Harry posted a statement after Liam’s death sharing kind words of Liam and “cherishing” the years they shared together.
