One Piece Shocks Fans: First-Ever Long Hiatus Announced After Over 20 Years of Nonstop Adventure!

The One Piece anime has been airing almost nonstop for more than 20 years, giving fans extra content on top of the manga by Eichiro Oda. However, this is about to change as the anime has been officially confirmed to be going into a long hiatus, which is the worst possible news given how good the series is currently.

It was recently announced that One Piece would be revealing huge news about both the anime and the manga on October 12, after episode #1122 aired. Editor-in-chief, Hiroyuki Nakano, has confirmed that the One Piece anime will be going on a 6-month hiatus and will return in April 2025. The anime will receive a broadcast timeslot change, and in the meantime, the Fishman Island arc will be rerun.

One Piece’s Anime Enters Its First Ever Long-Term Hiatus

The Anime Needs To Wait For the Manga To Accumulate More Chapters

The official account of One Piece revealed that this break is mainly to increase the quality and animation of the current arc, which is great, even if the Egghead arc has been absolutely breathtaking and the animation is on point. Furthermore, the Fishman Island rerun will be condensed into 21 episodes from the 56 episodes of the old version, and the compositing and visuals will be redone. The pacing in the Fishman Island arc was terrible and extremely slow, so this new version is a very welcome improvement on the controversial arc.

In order to achieve even higher quality, the Egghead arc will be on hold until April 2025. In addition, the broadcast time slot will change when the program resumes in April 2025.

One Piece’s Most Criticized Anime Arc Gets a Much-Needed Update

Fans Will Experience the Fishman Island Arc With a Completely New Look

The new edition of the arc will also feature exciting additions. New sound effects and VFX have been made much to the joy of fans, as the sound effects of the series have been a major criticism. Furthermore, the visuals will be close to the levels they reached during Wano, which is great considering how well-received the arc was. A new ending song will be featured, courtesy of the popular boyband BE:FIRST. The re-edition will begin airing on October 27, 2024.

Still, fans of the series will be shocked to learn that the One Piece anime won’t be on air for such a long time. However, this will give time to the manga to proceed further, meaning that the adaptation will not have to resort to filler or padding to gain time. It also means that the anime staff will hopefully have more time available and a lighter schedule, which will guarantee that the incredible quality that One Piece has been delivering will be maintained in the future.
